starting today - every week i will try to post a favorite record of mine or just something i am into at that time or one time or another. i encourage everyone who is reading/will read it to go out and buy the CD, vinyl, tape, download, or whatever. if i can - i will try to post my favorite song's video (if there is one) so you can see - or hear rather, for yourself...
this week - i've been listening to an album i've had since high school - DJ Shadow - Preemptive Strike. the first time i ever heard DJ Shadow was on an old-ass 411VM skate video during Mike Maldonado's scene. the song was 'High Noon' which turned out to be my favorite anyways. DJ Shadow can't really be classified as any certain type of music easily. his music has been described as experimental hip-hop beats, trip-hop beats, and turntablism. basically, DJ Shadow beats are a collective-collage of folk rhythms. break beats, classic song vocals, and much more. for instance, one song of his borrows a drum sample from a Hendrix song while another song takes a segment of dialogue from an eerie movie entitled Jacob's Ladder. dude uses live drums, turntables, and mpc's to make these beats straight to analog and lays these tracks individually during live shows! i own all of his albums and they are all good.
here is the video for 'High Noon' which was directed by Brian Cross. shit is such a good video and is eerie as fuck. not only is this one of my ALL TIME favorite songs but also my ALL TIME favorite videos. i know i say 'favorite' a lot but really, this is one is in my top ten. enjoy.
