...us vs. them...

last week i was going to post about the NEW Versus Store but i still don't really understand exactly the situation behind why they are moving or where they are moving to. if you have never been to the Versus Store - it is one of the best stores around in terms of brands they choose to carry and concepts behind a store. what a lot of stores don't seem to understand is that the selection of brands you carry depends strongly on eachother and effect the integrity of one another as well. carrying The Seventh Letter Crew merchandise along w/ Abercrombie & Fitch might give Abercrombie & Fitch credibility and would make The Seventh Letter Crew merchandise look retarded. ok - bad analogy but you get what i am saying...

@ their old location - they used to hold lots of exhibitions and i guess you could say that it was also a gallery in itself. i can only assume that the new one will be as well. another cool thing about them is that they consistently release 'store branded shirts' every season that are actually worth buying and wearing.

like i mentioned earlier - i know they are in the process of moving from their Temecula location for whatever reason. eh, but - well, just read for yourself from this journal-type entry straight from their website.

THE END OF THE BEGINNING

It’s been a minute (read: two months) since we closed down our first location on Winchester Rd. Since then we’ve been dealing with shady landlords, conflicting city agencies, impatient customers, our ever increasing Plum Card balance- all while demo’ing our old location and building up 99% of our new location by ourselves, with our friends and our family. Amongst all that I nearly forgot to set up the new site. With the new location being a balance of encompassing black walls and spar varnished wood, I wanted to maintain that balance, offering up the content on a minimalist black platter.

During the time we were shut down, the response we got from our base of customers was expected; worried emails and calls asking where we went, if we were closed down forever, etc. What was surprising were from the people who some of us hadn’t seen in the store before, hitting us up and gushing about how much they liked the art shows and events and how appreciative they were to us for opening the store here. It was good to hear, because at times it’s hard to grasp how you are viewed from the outside.

And all cliches aside, thats what shops are supposed to be - whether it’s a skate shop or a hobby store - a community hub where people can interact with others like them and get exposed to new things. A place where the people who hang out contribute as much energy and culture as the people who choose the products that are carried on the shelves. Without that cloud of individuals, the store is nothing but an overgrown closet. New friendships are made, people are influenced by each other and ideas turn into substance.

To those who aren’t used to inclusiveness (read: coolguys), this may sound quaint and borderline hippie-ish, but the fact of the matter is that no culture is born of elitism, only exploited by it. And on that note I’d like to thank everyone who has helped us over the past 2 1/2 years, without who’s help we probably wouldn’t have much to show for ourselves! There are so many people who have contributed, whether it be art work for a show, or simply their time. Keep an eye out as we move this site over to our new address, usversusthem.com, and along with that we’re going to introduce you to the people who we come in contact with and inspire us… Click on the pics below to activate the slideshow and view the larger images.

...and now for the good stuff - their new season drops:

P.S. i think this 1st shirt might be a Mike Giant collaboration - looks like his hand style and it also looks similar to the Diamond Supply Co. collab he did. sweet! the 2nd shirt is obviously paying homage to Jim Phillips. cool!

by the way, when i find out the new address and grand opening date - i will be sure to post both. even if you you don't live anywhere near the Inland Empire - the Versus Store is well, well worth going to see...
