pictured above is one of my favorite movies of all time. i have many favorite movies but this one stands out. anyways, in most movies just like 'Blood in Blood Out' there are always scenes in San Quentin State Prison and especially in the cafeteria. it is so recognizable because of the artwork on the walls. the artwork was done by Alfredo Santos who was sent to San Quentin in 1951 for a heroin possession charge. he was responsible for the 4 100 ft. long murals throughout San Quentin but the cafeteria being the most famous. basically, the type of artwork he was doing way back in the 50's paved the way for prison style tattoos - much like MIster Cartoon's style of tattooing and also Chicano style murals. it was said that once Santos was released - he never made much of a fortune from his artwork but spent time as an employee at Disney drawing characters. in 2003 he received an honorary key to the San Quentin State Prison.
